Women’s health includes care for adolescents and adult women looking for preventive services or treatment for a particular health condition.
Women’s health services include everything from cancer screenings and menopause guidance to birth control and fertility management. The practice also offers well-woman exams, which doctors recommend annually once you are sexually active or turn 21.
CB’s NP Health Services offers several services, including:
Depending on your issues, your provider may recommend you to an outside physician if you need further specialized treatment.
During the exam, your provider first takes your vitals and asks about your overall health, lifestyle, and family medical history.
Your provider then conducts three main exams.
During this exam, you sit on the exam table and place your arm up behind your head. Your provider uses two fingers to create circular motions around your breasts. This allows them to identify any abnormalities and detect any signs of breast cancer.
They also educate you on how to do this at home — which your provider encourages you to do regularly.
For this exam, your provider has you change into a paper robe and lie on your back on the exam table. You place your feet in stirrups that rest on either side of the end of the table. Your provider then inserts a lubricated small metal tool, or speculum, into your vagina. This should be painless and a little cold.
Your provider then checks your vagina, uterus, vulva, and cervix for any noticeable signs of cancer, cysts, or STDs.
CB’s NP Health Services recommends a pap smear every three to five years, which allows your provider to test you for cancerous cells in your cervix.
During the pap smear, your provider inserts a small, long swab into your vagina to collect cells in your cervix — a lab then tests them for cancer.
